Stan & Dan’s DJ Praise Album for Sale
April 28, 2008 ·
As many of you know, Stanley and Danny combined their talents to put on a show for the Bible club at Chatsworth High last Friday (4/25). While it was an achievement on its own (a “band” playing Christian songs in the middle of a public school), the real story comes from the essence of worship that filled the school on that hot April afternoon.
And as some of you may know, the event started out a little shaky, with the scorching sun literally melting Danny’s vinyls right on top of his turntable. But in the end, genuine praise was lifted up.
Stanley and Danny have agreed to produce a CD version of the set they played that afternoon. While they did not mention any specifics of price, ARK would like everyone to put in a MINIMUM donation of $5 per CD to help pay for new vinyls for Danny. Also, we would like to help generate money to assist in funding for their Japan Missions trip this summer.
So if you are interested in purchasing a CD (you will really really really like it), please let us know from the contact page.
David Crowder and the GMA
April 22, 2008 ·
David Crowder has got to be one of the more interesting people within this microcosm known as Christian Music. First of all, have you seen him?? His fro and beard definitely stands out in a crowd. And we all love his music, don’t we?
But what not a lot of people about Crowder is that he’s an excellent writer and avid blogger. I often enjoy reading his blog. It’s how I found out that he was coming out with his latest album “Remedy.” In fact, during the whole process, he was constantly updating about the progress. I felt like I had a part in creating the album, sort of…
Anyway, Crowder just wrote that he’s one of the guest bloggers for GMA (Gospel Music Association) Week. I’m not too sure what that is exactly, but it seems to be a convention of sorts featuring today’s biggest names in Christian music.
I just wanted to let everyone know about David Crowders’ writings. I enjoy his music, and would even venture to say that I like his writings even more.
30 Hour Famine this Weekend
April 21, 2008 ·
Did you know?
Across the world 29,000 children die from hunger each day. EACH DAY! In fact, by the time you finish reading this post, about 40 children will have already died. What can be done about this? While we can’t expect to bring an end to this madness on our own, we can however bring awareness and change to those around us. Together, we can be sure this tragedy doesn’t go unnoticed.
This is why ARK will participate in the 30 Hour Famine this weekend. From Saturday 6AM to Sunday 12PM, we will forgo eating to understand what millions experience every day. We will also participate in fundraising to send to World Vision to assist in eliminating hunger around the world. Our fundraising event this year is once again selling flamingos to the congregation to place on their lawns OR to be delivered to their friends…whether they like it or not.
To assist in both aspects of the 30 Hour Famine, ARK will meet at church to encourage one another in fasting as well as deliver the flamingos to people’s homes. During our free time, we will pass the time together by playing games and drinking lots of water!
Finally as we end the fast, we will gather at Andrew/Helen’s home to share a meal together.
One Thing This Saturday
April 15, 2008 ·
This Saturday, we will head to Downtown LA to attend the evening session for One Thing. One Thing is a movement formed by IHOP (International House of Prayer) focusing on meaningful prayer and worship.
ARK had the privilege of attending their event last year in Laguna Niguel and it was an incredible time of worship and intercession. We know it will be incredibly encouraging this year as well. Even though the conference will be from Thursday to Saturday, we will only plan to attend Saturday’s evening session. Details for ARK’s participation are below.
Details:
- Meet at church at 5:45pm on 4/19
- Eat dinner before meeting
- Will return ~10pm
If you would like to go for the whole day, you are more than welcome to do so. But it is suggest that you register yourself and provide your own transportation.
Gearing up for Missions
April 15, 2008 ·
Testify!
That’s the theme for this year’s missions trips. From Arizona to Africa to China, members of the Garden are prepping once again to spread love and Jesus all over the world. If you’ve signed up, make sure you check your emails to get the latest info about training meetings and other updates.
If you would still like to help, VBS is still looking for people to help prep. If you’re interested in being a counselor or teacher, you MUST attend all the training sessions.
Shout to the Lord on American Idol
April 15, 2008 ·
As some of you may already know, American Idol has a spin-off or sorts called “American Idol Gives Back.” It’s more of a charity fundraiser involving the “American Idol” show and contestants to bring awareness for a certain cause to the American public.
Recently though, on this year’s show, the contestants sang “Shout to the Lord” on live TV bringing the Christian bloggers and church-goers abuzz.
So there are two schools of thought here. It seems a lot of people can’t contain their excitement over the singing of a praise song on a show like American Idol. The American public in general would never have exposure to something like this outside of this show. On the other hand, there are others who are upset that a worship song was sung by those who didn’t sing it as worship.
If there’s anything to learn from this, it’s that you can’t please everyone. But what are your thoughts on this?
